Ryder Cup Weekend Is Almost Here!

Hi

Can Europe win back the Cup, or will it be a first American win on the road for 25 years?

The flagship event of team golf takes place in France for the first time this weekend, as Paris's Le Golf National hosts the 2018 Ryder Cup between Europe and the USA. The US arrive with arguably one of their strongest ever teams - an average world ranking of just 11 vs. Europe's 19 - but they haven't won on European soil for a quarter of a century.

Despite that record, Jim Furyk's contingent are slight favourites to win the Cup at 2.00 over Thomas Bjorn's Europe at 2.40, with a tie - which would see the US retain the title after their 17-11 win two years ago - at 13.00.

Smarkets have several markets to trade on the event, and there's plenty of interest in who will be the star player for each side.

TOP AMERICAN

The USA team seems to have plenty of strength in depth, with 11 of the 12 being in the world's top 17. Although Le Golf National may not be suited to big bombers like Dustin Johnson he is still favourite to be Top American at 7.40.

Tiger Woods comes to Paris after landing his first win in five years on the PGA Tour and he's trading at 8.80 to be the tourists' star man.

Another to look out for is Patrick Reed (10.50), the current Masters champion who often thrives in match play events.

TOP EUROPEAN

As for the hosts, Bjorn will be looking to the star names of Rory McIlroy (6.60) and FedEx Cup champion Justin Rose (6.80) to lead the charge.

Europe have five rookies in their ranks - compared to America's three - and the pick of those are Spain's Jon Rahm (8.80) and Englishman Tommy Fleetwood (9.80), who won the Open de France on this course in 2017.

Alex Noren (18.00) is another debutant and he should be confident around Le Golf National having taken Fleetwood's crown there this year.

Ian Poulter, the talismanic hero of previous years, is at 12.00 to once again put plenty of blue on the board.
