US Open 2015 Preview

Hi

The final tennis major of the season starts today at Flushing Meadows in New York.

With two weeks of quality tennis ahead this is a great time to preview some of the main challengers for the title and the pick of the first round matches.

Men's Singles
Djokovic (2.34) the man to beat in the men's, followed by second seed Roger Federer (5.0). Reigning champion Marin Cilic is backable at 90.0 to repeat the heroics of 2014.

Another long shot with pedigree here is Rafael Nadal. He may be working his way back from injury, but he's also a 14 times major winner (including 2 US Open titles) and should never be underestimated. Nadal is backable at 1.21 to beat Borna Coric in round one.

Women's Singles
"I don't feel the pressure right now," Serena Williams (1.96 to win the tournament) insisted. "I'm really just here to perform and do the best I can." Which if form is anything to go by will be a 22nd major title and the calendar slam, to go with the "Serena Slam" (4 majors on the spin) she already holds.

The strength of Williams and Maria Sharapova's withdrawal means everyone else on the ladies side is a long shot, with even second seed Simona Halep at lengthy 12.5 to win.

As For The Brits
Heather Watson is looking for her maiden win in the competition on her 5th visit (though she did win the juniors tournament in 2009). Having got within 2 points of beating Serena Williams at Wimbledon she will back herself to progress against world number 84 Davis in the first round, you can back her at 1.65.

Andy Murray (5.9) will be happy with his form entering the tournament, but starts with possibly the hardest first round tie against controversial Australian Nick Kyrgios. Murray has beaten Kyrgios twice in straight sets in majors this year, but the world 37 (playing under a suspended 28 day ban for comments made to Stan Wawrinka) is a powerful and improving player.
